Born and raised in Portland, Maine, Joseph Dunn studied at the Portland School of Art, the Worcester Art Museum, and Chautauqua Institution in his early years. He earned his BA degree in Fine Art from the University of MA, Dartmouth. In 1976, Joseph was awarded the Greenshields Foundation Fellowship in Montreal, Canada, which allowed him to pursue postgraduate study in Italy for four months, where he further honed his skills in acrylic painting.
After dedicating many years to his art, Joseph started a family with his wife, Sandy. He went on to receive his Master of Arts Degree from Assumption College in Rehabilitation Counseling. During this time, they raised two wonderful sons: Charlie, who is married to Paige Turcotte and is the proud father of Joseph's first two beautiful grandchildren, Wesley and Isla; and his younger son, Peter, who is engaged to Veronica LaBelle. While focused on his family and career as a rehabilitation counselor, Joseph largely set aside his brushes.
Now, thirty years later, Joseph has retired and returned to his first love, painting. He is excited to create and develop his portfolio of paintings while also enjoying time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and spending moments on the golf links.
Joe accepts commissions for his work. Please visit the contact page to reach out to him. He also welcomes visitors to his studio to review his art when considering a purchase of his unique pieces.
